Lexington-Concord Set: 1 Cent Stamp
Washington Taking Command of the American Troops

All three stamps of the Lexington-Concord set were issued on April 4, 1925.  It displays Washington under the “Washington Elm” taking control of the new American colonial army in Cambridge.  Although part of the Lexington-Concord series, this stamp depicts an event that occurred two months after the first battles.  This stamp was included in the set due to political pressure from a Cambridge congressman who wanted to include the town on a stamp.
