Chicago Century of Progress: Federal Building

The second Century of Progress Exposition stamp was issued on May 25, 1933, the same date as the first.  The three cent violet stamp displays a stylized representation of the Federal Building.  This building, constructed in an elegant art deco style, featured a domed building with 150 foot high pylons that represented the three branches of the United States government.  The Chicago Century of Progress Exposition was one of the most successful Expositions of all time and was so popular it was extended (after a closure of about five months) for another five months in the summer of 1934.

Similar to the one cent Century of Progress Exposition stamp, an imperforate souvenir sheet of 25 stamps was also issued.
