Boulder Dam Stamp

US Postage Stamps: 1935

Boulder Dam (Hoover Dam) Stamp

The Boulder Dam stamp was issued on September 30, 1935 to commemorate its completion. A dedication ceremony was held on the same date.  Boulder Dam, now known as Hoover Dam (construction was started during the Hoover administration), was one of the largest construction projects in the world at the time of its construction.  It is built across the Colorado River between Arizona and Nevada and supplies many of the southwestern states with both power and water.  In addition to providing water and power, Hoover Dam is also a tourist attraction and over a million people a year visit the site.  Until 2010 the Dam also doubled as a bridge across the Colorado as part of Route 93.  A new bridge was completed in 2010 and the Hoover Dam Bridge is no longer part of the Highway.
