American Chemical Society: 75th Anniversary Stamp

The American Chemical Society Stamp was issued on September 4, 1951 in New York, NY to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the ACS. The design features the emblem of the American Chemical Society with a variety of chemical related machinery in the background.

The American Chemical Society was established in 1876 in New York.  Originally having a membership of only 35 chemists, the organization has grown to include over 150,000 members, employs almost 2000 people, maintains and organizes over 32 million Chemical Abstracts and publishes 38 journals.

The mission of the American Chemical Society (ACS) is to “advanced the broader chemistry enterprise and its practitioners for the benefit of Earth and its people”.  In addition to ACS journals and abstracts, the organization offers over 22 million dollars a year in grants to researchers.
