Armed Forces Reserve Stamp

Armed Forces Reserve StampThe Armed Forces Reserve stamp was issued on May 21, 1955 (Armed Forces Day) in Washington, D.C. and features enlisted personnel from each of the five military branches; Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines and Navy.

Commemorating the Armed Forces Reserve Act of 1952, which was later updated and renamed the Reserve Forces Act of 1955 this stamp honors the reserve military forces of the United States.  The act reorganized the Armed Forces Reserve to restrict the mobilization of veterans of the Korean War and reorganized the reserves into three groups, Retired, Standby and Ready.  Each of these Armed Forces Reserve groups had different mobilization priorities.  National Guardsmen and reservists could also volunteer for active duty which allowed the military to avoid full mobilization.
