United States Postage Stamps: 1955

The United States Post Office issued nine stamps in 1955 commemorating the anniversaries of a number of events including the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Land Grant Colleges, Rotary International, New Hampshire’s Old Man of the Mountain, the Soo Locks, Fort Ticonderoga and Andrew Mellon.  Two additional stamps reflected concerns of that time, an Atoms for Peace stamp that promoted the peaceful use of nuclear technology and a stamp honoring the Armed Forces Reserve.
