The Great River Road Stamp

US Postage Stamps: 1966

The Great River Road Stamp

The Great River Road stamp was issued on October 21, 1966 in honor of the roads and highways that make up the route connecting Ontario, Canada to Louisiana.

The 2,340 mile road winds through major metropolitan areas, cities and small towns as well as a multitude of different natural landscapes and historical sites.  As the road passes through many different states, it is not controlled by any single entity.  However, Franklin D. Roosevelt officially established the route and white and green Great River Road signs were placed to mark the road and these signs are still used today.
