Marine Corps Reserve Stamp

The Marine Corps Reserve Anniversary stamp was issued on August 29, 1966 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the US Marine Corps Reserve in 1916.

The Marine Corps Reserve augments the active Marines during times of war or during national emergencies.  There are different types of Marine Corps Reserves.  Selected Marine Corps Reserve members drill two weeks a year and one weekend a month.  Individual Ready Reserve members are Marines who have completed their active duty, but have agreed to be called up to active duty during wars or emergencies.

The stamp design displays different marines that have protected the country over its history from the colonial marines to a 1960s frogman.
